Hi there! I know Christmas has come and gone for this year and that I probably should've posted this earlier (sorry!) but I really wanted to share my ultimate red lip that got me through the christmas season.
Christmas in my mind is almost always followed closely by a second thought, food coma. While wearing a red lip is festive, it can also be very high maintenance and quite often ends up with you either having to reapply it 6 times over the day or giving up and facing the fact that you ate your lipstick off over lunch.
However to my amazement, while heading to the bathroom after my meal to check on my lipstick and bracing for an odd looking crusty red-lipliner-only look in the mirror I was surprised to find this still very much stuck in place (woohoo!!).
This foolproof lipstick is the Stila Stay all Day Liqud Lipstick in the shade Carina. The shade in particular is not quite a traditional red and leans a little more towards the orange side of the spectrum. As expected by any liquid lipstick, the pigmentation is phenomenal and provides streak free, buildable colour. Initially when applied, they have a creamy, mousse-like texture but then quickly dry down to a very matte finish (they also have that delicious cake batter liquid lipstick smell). These liquid lipsticks can feel a little dry on and if you're not prepped properly, can settle into fine lines on your lips so I always make sure I use a good lip balm and exfoliate beforehand to keep my lips from feeling (and looking) too dry. I haven't experienced any feathering or bleeding with these lipsticks, however I'm not willing to take the risk and would always recommend lining your lips just in case when using bright colours.
A word of warning with these lipsticks, approach with caution; wipe the doe foot on the side of the tube because it does pick up quite a bit of product, use a thin layer and be careful! try to clean up mistakes quickly because once dry they are harder to fix.
Swatch: Natural Light
Swatch: Direct sunlight
Would I repurchase? I went out and now have 3 other shades so I guess that says something that I'm a shopaholic.
Overall, these lipsticks do take a little more preparation time to ensure good colour and wear. If you are looking for a vibrant, bold, opaque colour, a formula that will hold up through food and drink and don't have a problem with wearing very matte formulas then I think this lipstick will be perfect for you!
